Interview with an Artist: LittleInkSheep

This is another post in our series of interviews with Artists on the Artconomy platform.

Today’s interviewee is LittleInkSheep!

What name do you go by?

LittleInkSheep, or just Ink.

What’s the URL of your Artconomy Profile?

https://artconomy.com/profile/littleinksheep/products

What made you pick the name LittleInkSheep?

I don’t really remember. I guess a long time ago I decided to make a sheep my sona, and added ink to them because it’s art-related.

What sort of art do you do? Any type/subject that you enjoy the most?

I mostly do digital art of character designs.

I have attempted to make comics before, but most of them were scrapped because I couldn’t commit to such a long process.

I’m also trying to do more fanart.

How long have you been doing art, and how long have you been taking commissions?

I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember.

I only started taking commissions a couple of years ago.

Do you have a particular piece you’re proud of and would like to share?

There’s this one when the Honeydew Mei skin came out. I did my best in trying to get the details right.

Mei is a character from the video game Overwatch.

Her abilities involve ice and she has a floating robot named Snowball. I don’t play the game myself, but I like her.

When her new outfit skin came out, I tried my best to get all the details right enough.

Before Artconomy, how did you handle commissions?

Mostly on twitter, thought I haven’t gained much nowadays because I haven’t made a new price sheet yet– so I was glad Artconomy came with a product making thing.

What would you say is the hardest/most time consuming part of the commissioning process?

Well, on the creative side, it would have to be making the art perfect enough to avoid last minute revisions on the piece.

Because I’m worried, especially if the client lacks a clear reference, I might get the details of their character wrong right before I finish.

On the business side, which I guess is also creative, is that I have to wait for a client’s response to a WIP I sent to them for their approval.

If we have different schedules or something else, a commission might take me a while.

Is there a piece of advice you wish you’d gotten when starting out? What would you tell a new artist who’s throwing their hat into the ring?

There are going to be times when you won’t commissions. It might be days, it might be weeks. You can use that time to draw something for yourself.

If you’re drawing for others all the time, then you’re going to burn out quick. Use references, especially with hands.

Drink water, and for the love of art, stretch every once in a while.

Anything else you’d like to share with artists and commissioners?

There’s this. Also don’t forgot to comment on an artist’s work. It means a whole a lot to them.
