NSFW Furry Artists: 4 Tips to Find the Right One for You!

Hi everyone, this is Seeksie here from Artconomy.  As an NSFW artist, I am here to help you with some things to look at when finding that perfect NSFW furry artist to bring your ideas to life.

Tip 1: Try to have a clear idea of what you want first, or at least be flexible with the way things turn out if you do not.

So, your quest for the awesome NSFW furry commission has begun but where do you start? Well the first step in this process should be asking yourself “What type of piece do I want done?” Having a clear idea of what you want will aid you the most in achieving the most excellent of commissions. Here are some examples of questions you should ask yourself:

  • How many characters will it have?
  • What are the characters doing?
  • Who is doing whom?
  • Do you have permission to get art of the characters you want drawn?
  • Do you want a background on the piece?
  • Do you  want any particular lighting?

If you are not a great wordsmith, a picture is worth a thousand words.  Take time to create mood boards or look online for references of poses and colors.  Anything to guide the artist to your vision.  If you cannot or do not wish to do that, please be flexible on what the artist comes up with.  Taking a little bit of time to compile some guide points for the artist will help you avoid revision fees.

Tip 2: Check the NSFW Furry artist’s portfolio.

So you have your idea nailed down, what is next? Searching through different artists’ portfolios to find the best fit for your vision. There are many sites online that have the bodies of work of NSFW furry artists online, like Artconomy.com. A few questions to ponder:

  • Does this artist draw the content you are looking for already?
  • Do  they draw the species that are going to be in the piece?
  • Does their style compliment your character’s attitude and personality

Thinking about these few things can help with selecting the best NSFW furry artist for you.

Tip 3: Check the artist’s terms of service (if they have them).

Most artists have some sort of list of do’s/don’ts of subject material they will/will not handle.  If they do not have a clear list or you think it is possible they may not feel comfortable drawing, it is OK to ask, the worst they will do is say no. NSFW furry artists get a lot of different requests and may not think of everything they may not be comfortable creating. Finding an artist that already draws that type of content you want will make it easier to locate someone who is willing to create your vision.

Tip 4: Talk to the NSFW Furry Artist to see how they communicate.

Most NSFW art is very personal. That means it is important to open a line of communication to the artist to see how they interact with you. Having a good rapport with them will make the commissioning  process easier. A few questions to ask:

  • What is their current wait list like?
  • What is your turnaround time when you start working on my piece?
  • Will I receive work in progress updates?
  • Do they charge extra for more complex characters?
  • Do they charge extra for NSFW furry art?
  • What is their rate for having more than one character?

Building up a good relationship with an artist will create something special. You may even commission them again! By being clear with your vision, making sure the artist does art similar to what you are looking for and is willing to do it and opening up a good line of communication, you create the perfect storm for a great commission.
